Google Contacts phone unformatted on main list screen
This is a weird one - I have access to a bunch of different Gmail accounts, and it seems mostly, but not 100% consistent, but it is driving one client up the wall and I wanted to find out if it's "normal" (and if so, why).
When you go to Google Contacts through a browser, and look at the main list of contacts, the vast majority of the phone numbers are unformatted. They have a "+1" in front of them, but after that it's a string of numbers. No brackets, no spaces. For example, +12223334444.
Now, if you click INTO the contact to see more details, their number looks correct. (222) 333-4444. When you EXPORT the contact, whether to Google CSV or vCard, opening the raw data in a pure text editor (like BBEdit) shows that the formatting is correctly present.
In addition, if I have an entry in "Other Contacts" with a formatted number, and I add them to the main Contacts, they show up again, unformatted in the main list.
The ONLY setting I've been told has any effect on this is the "Language/Region" in the individual Google Account - Personal Info page. But this is set to English/US, and I've changed it, and changed it back, and no change.
I've been told by Google support that this is normal behavior but it seems downright wack.
I'm baffled. Does everyone else experience this? Any insights or solutions?
Edit: I should mention, the only "solution" I've put together is to run a Find/Replace Chrome extension with Regex so I can automatically display the formatted numbers on that page only. But it seems like a round peg for a square hole.
