Beolab 3 bass fluttering/vibrating at medium volume – woofer or amplifier issue?
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a pair of Beolab 3 speakers second-hand. According to the seller, both speakers were supposed to be in perfect working condition. Unfortunately, one of the speakers seems to have an issue in the low-frequency range.
At medium volume levels, the bass starts to sound fluttering/vibrating and no longer plays cleanly. The other speaker of the pair performs perfectly under the exact same conditions, so I would mostly rule out the source or cabling.
To me, the noise sounds more mechanical than like a typical electronic distortion. It mainly occurs with lower frequencies or bass-heavy music.
I attached a video where the problem should hopefully be clearly audible.
My questions:
- Is this a known issue with the Beolab 3?
- Does this sound more like a woofer problem (surround, spider, voice coil, glue joint, etc.) or rather an issue with the amplifier/electronics?
- Can anyone roughly estimate what might be defective?
- What repair costs would typically be expected for something like this?
- And would this realistically be repairable DIY, or is it more of a professional repair job?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
