Contracting at Amazon

Throwaway account.... I started contracting at Amazon 7 weeks ago. I've done contracting before for Microsoft, LinkedIn, and a few smaller tech companies. Amazon is like nothing I've ever experienced. First couple weeks was fine and then Bang! I'm paid to work 40 hours a week, but I'm averaging over 50. Lots of 12 hour days. So each week on my time sheet, I just make up crap since I'm not authorized to work overtime.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but I feel the amount of work I'm being given, and the amount of feedback/revisions I have to do on anything I work on, is way more than I should be expected to do in 40 hours, but saying anything will make it look like I'm not up for the job.

I guess it differs across teams/roles, but curious if this is standard? Is the idea to burn through contractors because they're even more disposable than the FT employees? Fire 30k FT employees, and then replace them with 10k contractors to burn through?

Also, it's like there's a never ending but also seemingly always changing set of rules around documents, so that what I write is always too short OR too detailed, missing something, or including something that should never be included even if it's something that I've seen on multiple other documents etc.
