Can I control gas gravity wall furnace with remotely?

I am moving into a new rental house, and the only sources of heat are this gas gravity wall furnace and a wood stove. There is no thermostat, and the only way to control the furnace is the dial with numbers on the gas valve. I don't know really anything about these furnaces, and this will be the first time I've had one. Is there a way to use relays or anything like that to integrate this into my smart home (home assistant)? I'm a renter, so I need a non-destructive, reversible, renter friendly option. And obviously needs to be safe, as this is a gas appliance. I would really like to be able to control the furnace without having to get on the floor and mess with the valve, set up a schedule, and be able to fine tune a little better than a dial with numbers and no actual temperatures. If there's a way to use a relay or anything like that to control the furnace, that should be all I need to get it into home assistant. Is this possible?
