Petition · Repeal home cultivation limits in New York's MRTA
New York legalized cannabis, which is great. But the law still caps personal home cultivation at just 3 mature plants per person. For people who grow for medicine, learning, or simple self-sufficiency, that's genuinely restrictive.
I started a petition asking New York's Office of Cannabis Management to repeal these limits. Here's why it matters:
Medicinal patients often need specific strains and consistency that commercial supply can't guarantee. Home growers are trying to learn the craft and build sustainable practices—but you can't really experiment or develop skills with only 3 plants. And for anyone paying commercial prices regularly, home cultivation should be an option for reducing costs.
These limits also kill the community knowledge-sharing that comes naturally when people grow. Small limits discourage the very education and peer learning that make people smarter consumers and growers.
