Asking for advice: Resigning due to heavy commute + role burnout as an introvert (Need perspective)
Hi everyone, I’m looking for some honest advice or perspective on my current situation.
I am currently working as an Auditor. I’ve been with the company for a few months (started as an encoder and got promoted), but I’ve decided to resign.
There are two major reasons I'm leaving:
- The Commute: I live on the uphill outskirts of Cebu City . Traveling back and forth every day is becoming incredibly exhausting and expensive.
- The Job Pressure & Personality Mismatch: As an introvert, the sheer pressure of an auditing role is draining me. The constant back-and-forth, dealing with a lot of people, and the high-stress environment mean that by the time I factor in the heavy commute, I am completely wiped out mentally and physically. I realized I thrive much better in independent, data-focused, or back-office roles.
I’m already applying for other positions closer to home (looking at back-office staff, encoder, or data-entry roles where I can just focus on the task), but I have a few worries:
- How do I handle this in interviews? When future employers ask why I left after a short time, how do I explain that the auditing role wasn't a good fit for my working style without sounding like "I can't handle pressure"? Is saying the commute was too far enough?
- The Resignation Letter: Should I keep it strictly generic (e.g., "pursuing other opportunities"), or is it okay to mention the travel distance? (I plan to keep the introvert/pressure part out of the formal letter, of course).
- For fellow introverts: Have any of you left a role because the social/role pressure just didn't align with your personality? Did finding a quieter, more independent role turn things around for you?
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from HR professionals or anyone in Cebu who understands the daily grind here. Thanks!
