Wondering if anyone else has attempted to print out a 3d plate that could be used to emboss your book title and artwork onto leather?
I am printing my first attempt, a simple cover with Title, Author and Published Year and a band at the top and bottom of a repeating, guilloche border design.
I am printing it pretty thick (base plate) with 8mm "tall" design elements and ironing of the top layers to smooth them out. Looking like about 15 hours to fully print it. The calculated cost is $6.07. Given I can do a simple overnight pressing with cased leather, I think that's reasonable. Actual work time about 1 hour (designing the plate in TinkerCad and then casing the leather and setting in press).
Anyone else do this?
What were your results?
Like it, didn't like it?
Any tips, tricks or gotcha's?
Thank you in advance for your contributions.
So been looking at trying to do something a little different than standard, everyday builds.
Recently got a laser engraver and decided to try it out for not just cutting patterns, but also engraving scenes on the items I make. Doing a custom set this wallet, knife sheath and a field notes cover. Finished the bifold wallet, working on knife sheath, trying to decide what to do for the field notes cover.
What do y’all think? Interesting idea but eh? Interesting idea and love it? What would you change or do differently? What do y’all think would make it really level up into unique?
Thanks for the inspiration and the input!
