I got a DUI about 8 months ago and the court required me to file an SR-22 to get my license back. I knew my insurance was going to go up but I wasn't prepared for how much.

Before the DUI I was paying $112 a month with Progressive. When I called them after the conviction they said they were non-renewing my policy. I've since been shopping around and the quotes I'm getting are brutal. The lowest I've found is $287 a month and the highest was $412. I drive a 2017 Chevy Malibu and I have no other violations on my record.

I've heard there are companies that specialize in high-risk drivers and SR-22 situations. I've gotten quotes from The General and Dairyland which are supposed to be good for SR-22 but they were still $265 and $298 respectively. I've also heard about non-owner SR-22 policies for people who don't own a car but I do own a car so I don't think that applies to me.

I've also been told the SR-22 requirement usually lasts 3 years in most states. I'm in Texas so I'm not sure if it's different here. Is there anything I can do to lower my rate during this period or do I just have to wait it out?
