Why are the only two options anyone recommends for Gen Zers staring at a brick wall for 2 hours or god forbid reading a book?
"What do I do, I can't watch a movie without looking at my phone" Watch a movie without looking at your phone; better yet, pick a nice Ghibli film like Ponyo, sit up in a nicely lit room with the windows open, and watch the entire thing in one sitting. Pick a good TV show with hr long episodes and watch without doing anything else. Pick your favorite artist and listen to a cool album the whole way through, preferably an hour and a half long, with no other distractions. Even video games are a super fun solution. Play some JRPGs that have a lot of dialogue and that require your focus for a prolonged amount of time. Persona 3 is one I've heard good things about.
I'm not just trying to say that there are alternatives to reading, but also that reading isn't just some dreadful, slogging, attention-span excercise; Its entertainment, in the same way all of these other things are. Literature doesn't have to be this gymbro-esque way of strengthening your minds eye or whatever. A lot of yall are missing out on thousands of good books and stories that would be PERFECT for you because you see reading as a means to an end. After you put down the TV remote or the controller, just pick up a book.
Its really not that serious.
