SE Michigan Instrument Checkride - Experience

Just wanted to share my instrument checkride experience in SE Detroit area.

After going through IACRA and looking at my logbook and documents, the DPE started with questions about currency and proficiency. He had me show him how the aircraft was airworthy using the technical logbook, with a big emphasis on looking up ADs online to check for compliance. Then, we went through my cross-country plan, including the departure procedure, weather briefing, altitude, and route. We also talked about approach plates and a couple of instrument regulations and procedures.

The wind was a little gusty, so we waited a few minutes before deciding to head up. The flight went relatively well. He briefed the approaches we’d be doing and acted as ATC to give me my CRAFT clearance and vectors for the DP. Once we started the approaches, he asked for a full LNAV followed by a missed approach into a hold at a GPS waypoint. Then, he vectored me for an LNAV circling approach with a simulated PFD failure, so I had to hit the reversionary button on the G1000. We finished with an ILS to a full stop. He handed over the certificate and said congrats!"
