i'm being sued over a 2k bill my insurance should've covered

I don't know what to do next, my insurance says there's no record of a claim made on that date/amount, should I contact the provider suing me? I don't live in America anymore (I was there on a student visa) never had issues with this insurance but I don't know if contacting the provider before the hearing date will make it worse?

I'm being sued over a medical bill that my insurance should've covered

Hi everyone, I just got a letter in the mail that I'm being sued for a $2000 medical bill from 4 years ago, my insurance should've covered it but I guess it didn't and I'm just finding out, I'm not an american citizen nor live in america anymore I also don't have any assets to my name and get by working freelance so I don't have a proper job, I sent an email to the insurance company asking if they got billed properly or even billed at all, what should I do next?
