Scream! (time lapse w/ music)

Lot of my peices have a music component to them that influenced my ideas, so hopefully y'all enjoy!

Had to splice near the end since I have trouble with procreate giving me the full time lapse without messing up the end bit. Found a work around.

If anyone has any questions about the process, im happy to answer! Critiques are also welcomed!

Scream! (Exploring expression)

I attempted to depict an expression without relying on eyes, but still keeping the focus on a head/bust. forms and figure drawings do this well, so I included hands to help give the subject more expression in addition to its mouth. I feel that the inclusion of hands provides more interpretations for the subjects expression. This also led me to put a little more detail on the hands and mouth, since they were going to draw the viewer the most.

brushes include:

Line work: stabilized syrup

Color: Haartz brush (helps with texture, also used Multiply and Screen layers)

Background: a combo or haartz and custom riso brush

Texture: custom paper texture brush and a halftone brush

Hot tip: when working with a lot of black dark areas, sometimes it's easier to just block out the whole area dark, and erase out the white area. I come from a scratch board background, so this is a technique I use often.

Experimenting a little more with style, not only with fundamentals like values, linework, and color, but also when how to direct focus. I feel like the eyes were able to grab attention due to them having more chiaroscuro compared to the rest of the piece. In terms of faces however, eyes are often the first thing we look at, so im thinking about how to divert attention from the eyes in my next peices to come.

Im also gonna see if I can convey expressions without having to rely on eyes too much, so that should be fun.

LOVING procreate's ability for easier in experimenting! Never be afraid to try new things when creating!

Like most of pieces, brushes include:

Line work: stabilized syrup

Color: Haartz brush (and playing with layer filters for darks and lights)

Background: a combo or haartz and random grunge brushes

Texture: custom paper texture brush and a halftone brush

And questions, tips, or feedback is always welcome 🤗!
