e-braking update from CAC

e-braking update from CAC

Hearing this secondhand from folks who were at the monthly CAC tonight... while there isn't a ton of details, I thought this Reddit would like to know:

Apparently, a specific PTC cause was identified in the San Jose-Santa Clara area, a software fix is being prepared, and will be implemented by end of this month.

CAC slides should be posted in a few days on caltrain.com, I'll be looking for them. Here's to hoping this fix actually works.

503 ebrake Wednesday, 5/20

Just north of Santa Clara (around San Tomas for those who know). Felt like the engineer was trying to manage speed to avoid it, but lol. Usual 7-10 minute delay.

Caltrain CAC is tonight. From what I’ve heard from people who’ve written board letters, Caltrain is responding with text suggesting they’ve got a software fix in testing. That fix cannot come soon enough. I just wish they could publish it to their website so I don’t have to keep posting these.

I also expect 511 to ebrake 😂😭

503’s turn to ebrake this morning

In the usual spot, a little bit south of Sunnyvale. Expect 7-10m delays.

Pretty clearly a PTC hotspot here where the system freaks out and brakes the train… let’s see if Caltrain says anything in this week’s CAC about it.

Yes, 511 ebraked again

Any day in -y. Today, there’s three employees in safety vests in the first car. Couldn’t give me details but Caltrain seems aware that 511 in particular hits this problem more than pretty much any other train…

Another day that ends in y, another ebrake for 511

Folks north of San Jose, expect your usual 7-10 minute delay.

I’ve gotten used to grabbing my laptop tightly in anticipation of this occurring. What an absurdity.

If this is annoying you too, please write a letter to the Caltrain board. They kind of waved off my letter, but if enough of us write, it’ll force them to confront this to some degree.
