Morning shave with Mingshi 2000

Morning shave with Mingshi 2000

First time shaving with the Mingshi 2000 which is the Chinese version of the Merkur Futur which I purchased from Ali Express for all of $6 U.S.

I have had mostly good experiences with the Chinese clones and this one was no exception.
Very nice shaving experience for me on settings 3 and 2 on a two pass shave paired with a new Astra SP blade.

I love the PAA Tombstone Immaculate soap and splash, super slick and the lather from the CK6 formula always delivers a wonderful finish.

I purchased a few other Chinese razors just to have some fun and experiment with them. There was only one razor that I ended basically tossing because the blade alignment wasn’t good, I was out only about $9.

Happy shaving y’all!

Monday morning shave

I forgot how luxurious A&E’s Daniele Maullu soap was, incredibly comfortable shave this morning using my Maxwell June razor with the barber pole handle and standard top cap paired with a Kai blade on its second use.

The Proraso boar brush is perfect for this soap as it retains moisture and the lather was amazing on my skin.

Finished the shave with matching splash and EDP, left my face feeling BBS smooth.

Happy shaving y’all!

Friday shave

Not doing a vintage shave this morning so that I could shave with my new RazoRock Hawk V3 SE razor. Paired it with a Feather Progaurd artisan blade for a very efficient, close shave, although not quite as comfortable as my Blackland Vector in either Ti or SS but still a nice shave.

First time trying PAA’s Sangre De Draco soap and splash. Wonderful cologne musky scent, lathered up with the Yaqi synthetic 24 mm knot.

Great start to the weekend, happy shaving y’all!!

Vintage Fridays

Wonderful vintage shave this morning using the Gillette 46’-47 Aristocrat revamped in Nickel by Matt at RE paired with a Feather blade.

Lathered up with RE’s tallow based 1966 soap using my Shavemac handmade badger followed up with the matching splash and balm.

There is nothing quite like the Aristocrat in terms of ultimate smoothness, comfort and overall efficiency.

Great start to the weekend, happy shaving y’all!!

Wednesday morning shave

Wonderful Wednesday morning shave with the Rex Ambassador paired with an Astra SP blade.

First time using RE’s Sandalwood soap and splash. The scent was very pleasant and lathered extremely well using the Oliworks synthetic.

Overall a wonderful shave and I can’t say enough positive experiences with the Ambassador (there is a learning curve). It takes some time to know what setting and blade paring works best for your skin and beard type as it can be on the aggressive side, but once you have that figured out, it’s worth the time and effort spent learning this amazing heir loom shaving instrument.

Happy shaving y’all!

Monday shave

First time using the GFS Lybor. Paired with a Gillette CK blade using the mild side of the base plate.

This is a hefty beautiful SS razor which made the shaving so easy and smooth, it really glides across the skin, with zero irritation on a two pass shave.

Lathered up with Sterling’s Frozen Tundra, one of my favorites, using the Parker badger, followed with matching splash and balm.

Truly a wonderful wake you up type of shave to get you going in the wee hours of the morning.

Happy shaving y’all!

Vintage Fridays

I’m borrowing a phrase (somewhat) from another poster where they have Fatboy Fridays.

I’m changing it up a bit and calling mine Vintage Fridays. I have Gillette’s, Wilkinson Sword, GEM and Eveready vintage razors, so I’ll spread the love amongst those that I have in my collection.

Today I’m using my Gillette 1956 B2 Heavy Red Tip Super Speed paired with a new Personna GEM blade. This razor has easily become one of my favorites of the Super Speeds. Slightly a bit more efficient than the others, but still mild and extremely comfortable.

Lathered up with Rex Supply Co 1944 tallow based soap using my Shavemac badger. This is a very soft soap bordering on a cream but not quite. Has a wonderful older musky scent to it sort of reminds me of my grandfather’s cologne.

Followed it up with Thayers and matching splash and EDP.

Wonderful smooth, comfortable shave with a bit of nostalgia.

Happy Friday and shaving y’all!!

Tuesday morning shave

Very nice mild, smooth and efficient shave this morning with my Razo Rock GC in SS with the barber pole handle using the .76 base plate paired with a Personna GEM blade on its second use.

Lathered up using my Yaqui 26mm knot badger with PAA’s Ciderhouse 5 CK-6 formula which has a wonderful scent and is slick as can be.

This base plate/blade combo is absolutely amazing, zero irritation on a two pass shave with pick ups.

Wonderful way to start my day! Happy shaving y’all!

Friday shave

Had a very mild and comfortable shave this morning using my Merkur 34G paired with a GEM blade. Same shaving experience as with the 34C but it does feel slightly heavier and has different knurling.

Lathered up with PAA’s Harvest Moon using the PAA 26mm synthetic, this soap has a nice subtle smoky, tobacco scent to it and the CK-6 formula is always slick and lathered extremely well. Followed up with Thayers Cucumber for the cooling feel and matching aftershave splash.

Went for a 3 pass BBS shave this morning as I’m super familiar with this razor and it’s extremely mild.

Happy Friday and happy shaving y’all!!

Wednesday shave

This was my first shave with my newly acquired SE razor; Aylsworth Atelier paired with an artist club Feather Proguard blade.
I lathered up with PAA’s Black Bot using my 26mm knot Yaqui synthetic; Timber Wolf.
This is one incredibly smooth and efficient razor rivaling my Blackland Vector!
It has just a bit of blade feel, which helps reach those hard-to-get areas, like the mustache.
Followed up my irritation-free shave with some Thayers and matching aftershave.

Happy shaving, y’all!

Monday morning shave

Early morning shave with vintage H-3 Gillette adjustable Slim paired with a GEM blade on its 3rd use.
Very comfortable two pass shave using my favorite Sterling soap.

Friday shave

Had a very nice smooth quick shave this morning before work.
Face lathered with Proraso white using my Yaqui synthetic brush.
Nice two pass shave with the Rex Envoy paired with an Astra SP blade on its second use.
This is a mild to moderate aggressive razor it would be like the Ambassador on setting 2.5. Very little blade feel with no irritation or feedback from the alum.

Happy Friday and happy shaving y’all!!

Vintage meets Modern

Some recent vintage additions to part of my collection, including vintage 1912-50’s Wilkinson Sword and GEM SE razors set to the backdrop of modern DE razors and brushes.

This is has become something really special and sort of a passion for me.

Happy shaving y’all!!

Thursday morning shave

Very nice smooth mild two pass shave with my vintage GEM Featherweight razor paired with an Accutec (GEM) blade first use. Lathered up with Proraso white using the Omega badger.

I had tried shaving with this razor on one other occasion using sub-par blades from RE and I had to stop mid-shave as it felt like I was scraping paint off of my face even using the suggested shave angle which I tried several but nothing worked.

This time was literally night and day with the new blades. It took a minute to get the shaving angle which is almost flush with your skin, but once I figured it out, it was very smooth sailing!

Happy shaving y’all!

1930’s Wilkinson Sword Empire Vintage Razor

I just received this 1930’s Vintage Wilkinson Sword Empire Razor in excellent condition!! The blade is actually still sharp!! I did a thorough disinfection and some light polishing. Unfortunately it didn’t come with the strop, as the razor has a self stropping mechanism built into the razor itself. I did however find an incomplete 7 day set of the same razor that included the vintage strop which I will restore. I also found one hollow ground Wilkinson Sword blade on eBay still new and in the original packaging.

Tatara Masamune Nodachi Dark and PAA’s COOP

This is my second shave with the Tatara Masamune with the Nodachi set up. Candidly the first shave did not go as well, I chalked that up to not having the right blade and getting used to a brand new razor. I did purchase the OC plate as well, I’ll get to try that set up soon.

This shave went extremely well this time! So smooth and efficient paired with a brand new Personna GEM blade, the weight and head design of this razor is excellent and the quality is top notch.

I lathered up using my Aylsworth synthetic brush with a new offering from PAA; COOP, which is an homage to the 90’s era JOOP! Wonderful scent, brought back some great memories. Post shave I used Thayers Cucumber and the matching aftershave.

Wonderful shaving experience for hump day.

Happy shaving y’all!!
