Please Help Need Advice re: Cleaning Service

***I would love to hear from several people if possible. It will help inform how I proceed. Thank you!*** Does anyone have a different opinion? How do I respond to the cleaner?

Hello,

Looking for experienced cleaners and or individuals with experience paying for such services/landlords to weigh in on a problem I’m having. I hired someone local to the Louisville area that came recommended to me (not naming the person out of respect for them). They told me it would be around $40 per hour and that they estimated it would take around 10 hours to deep clean my house. All cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms were all empty and the carpets have already been cleaned. So deep clean would be floors, bathrooms, and kitchen basically. It’s a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house for reference.

I’m not there to watch as I’ve moved out, but the cleaner asked if they could bring their family member to help them clean. I agreed of course, because I assumed (maybe naively) that this was to finish the job faster. After one 7 hour day, the cleaner sent me a bill for $500 for both the cleaner and the family member being paid the $40 rate. In that time, all they were able to get done was cabinets (which were empty), fridge, sink, microwave, and part of the stove (outside only). I feel completely taken advantage of. Can anyone help me understand 1. Whether I’m naive about prices and being unreasonable and 2. If it is standard practice to pay for the family member also? I feel like 14 labor hours is way too much to have completed so little. My kitchen was not a hoarder house scenario - it really and truly was not too bad.

If I’m not being unreasonable, what can I even say? I’m overwhelmed.
