CRS 509 now, 520 by November — should I still be worried about PR?

Hi everyone,

I came to Canada as an international student in 2021 and completed a 3-year diploma to improve my PR pathway. Since then, I’ve been trying to maximize my CRS score as much as possible.

I took the CELPIP and scored well overall, but I missed the higher speaking benchmark by just 1 point (got a 9), so I lost 2 CRS points there.

I also completed the TEF and gained around 13 additional points. Unfortunately, my employer is not willing to support me with CLB 5, so French is currently my main option to increase my score further. I’m still working on TEF, but lately I’ve been feeling a bit stuck and unsure whether I’m approaching things the right way.

My current situation:

  • CRS score: 509
  • Expected CRS by November: around 520
  • 2 years of Canadian work experience
  • Work permit expires in January 2027

I know nobody can predict immigration draws, but if you were in my position, how would you use the next 6 months?

Would you:

  • focus aggressively on improving French,
  • retake CELPIP speaking,
  • or simply stay patient and wait?

I’d genuinely appreciate honest advice from people who went through a similar stage, especially those who felt uncertain before finally getting PR.

need advice

I feel stuck at CLB 4 in speaking, while in the other modules I know what to do and how to improve.

I’ve already spent a lot of time and money, and now I’m feeling burnt out.

Has anyone been in the same situation and managed to improve their speaking? What worked for you?

I’m looking for practical strategies, not general advice.
