new to this

hello, i own a German wirehaired pointer named Radar who is 5 years old- he started having focal seizures at 3, but i was unaware they were seizures. now he is beginning to expierence personality changes which prompted us to an emergency vet. he is currently on Levetiracetam (500 mg) twice a day now, but im aching.

i know hes just sick, but the 180° in his personality from his cuddly, happy-go-lucky self to a resource guarding, aggressive dog is breaking my heart. im scared this is permanent. im worried i lost my buddy. i hope the medicine helps bring my dog back, but i was told if he's starting to expierence neurological issues from this disease that it's likely he won't make a full recovery.

did i lose my dog? am i going to have to prepare to potentially put him down because his aggression will become so severe it's debilitating? i just recieved the news today, so maybe im being dramatic because it's all so fresh, but im worried sick.

how did you guys navigate this with your dogs at first?

some insight

so, my dog Radar is a German wirehaired pointer and 5 years old. he is the biggest sweety in the world, and absolutely adores me since ive been his sole trainer as a puppy- hes my soul dog. i tether him in my room (its 15 ft of leash) so he doesnt roam the house, and sometimes it gets tangled. he has NEVER indicated to me he gets upset by this (his warning sign is he gets very stiff), but today as i was going to unclip him to untangle he sprung up into my face growling. he has never growled at me before. he was extremely weird for an hour, and then suddenly became all happy go-lucky again, but then a couple hours later hes all weird, stiff, and avoidant. again, hes NEVER done this before and im very very worried he may try to bite me. its heartbreaking.
has your dog ever done this? how do you repair the relationship? it feels like he doesnt even know who i am anymore.
