Optionality
I don't know if this is really the place to put this in or if someone else has already answered this. But here it goes, I want to do something in finance since I have lived in new york my whole life. I have always loved math and physics and so I thought that naturally I might get into engineering but later looking into it I realized that most of the cooler tech jobs are in boston or California. I have visited these cities and states and I don't ever really see myself moving out of New York or to any other city for that matter. That's when I came across quants and how they work I thought that it was interesting I do realize how hard it is to get in, but I do like the level of breadth that they have through the levels of rigour that come from Math, coding and the finance I think that is what always interested me about engineering the how you use math and physics to understand the world around you I think that quant sounds a lot this but with a more financial twist to it. I would really like to do something in finance in NYC to try and actually be livable and techinical where if I were to try and do EE or mechatronics there would not be much work for me here and if I did end up finding something it's not work that is too interesting and ok pay, which makes sense we are know for our finance industry not engineering or tech apart from fintech. But again I have traveled a lot around the world and realized that I don't ever envision myself leaving at least until I am 50 or can't handle the faster pace city life. With all that said this where my question really comes in If I train hard and study make my college course geared towards quant but I don't make it what is the possible backups that I have, I definitely don't want to be a math teacher or something like, again I know I am good at math always have been but I am not exceptional like a math level olympiad. The point of me going in this direction is to have a mathematical and technical understanding which I always enjoyed so if there is some back up that still has a feel like this I am completly fine with it. Thanks to anyone that takes their time to respond =).
