Flat feet surgery Review
This is my first time posting lol, but I thought someone might be in the situation I was a few weeks ago. About 3 or 4 months ago I went to get an opinion about surgery, they explained it well. I had flat feet since I can think and it really impacts my life. I couldnt walk long distances and standing was very hurtful after a while as well... so I thought id go ahead, nothing to loose. I was reallllly nervous of the surgery... middle of June I got operated and im just gonna give an honest review of how I feel 2 months post op.
(This was done on my foot: Evans-Osteotomy, FDL-Transfer, calcaneal osteotomy)
So basically I had 2 small (0,5cm) incisions inside as well as a longer (about 2cm) and outside the same, one longer (2cm) and 1 small (0,5). Im not worried about the size personally.
When I first woke up from surgery I was in such amount of pain I cried and begged for pain meds. With a high opioid pain iv the pain was manageable the next days after. I planned 2 or 3 days in the hospital, I ended up 5 days. I just had so much pain, especially in the heel. Everything hurt, I've cried so much regretting my choice so heavily. But crying and regretting didn't help so I got myself together. My plan from the hospital was
1-2 weeks in a specialized cast
3-5 week 20kg weight bearing in a special boot
6-8 week full weight in the special boot
I started lymphatic massage which didn't really help, the swelling overall wasn't that extreme. Physio therapy was also from then to now and i quite like it.
I also had a huge problem with my wounds not closing, so that was another messed up thing I had to go through.
The movement was something too, im hypermobile so I could move my foot more than I should, the full range isnt back (yet?) But its good enough movable. I was on crutches for quite a long time but now I can walk without crutches and mostly without pain now.
Overall the pain level was very bad in the beginning, walking hurt a lot not only from the wound on the heel but also from the tendon that was shortened. But every week it got better and better, im mostly painless now, except when im walking or standing a lot but i was told it takes a while for that.
If you'd ask me "you did surgery on your right foot, will you do the left foot too?" Straight up no. Maybe in a few months it'll be so much better, but right now? No. Absolutely not. Im not thinking that much about regretting it but I wouldn't do it on the other foot standing point now.
