Monoclonal IgA question
I’m waiting for a follow up but it’s 3 months from now. I saw on an old blood panel a note from the lab that stated-
“Immunofixation shows IgA monoclonal protein with no confirmed
light chain association, which is suggestive of Heavy Chain
Disease. Recommend retesting in 6-10 weeks.
*
This monoclonal protein is observed in the beta region”
The neurologist who ordered the lab didn’t mention the note. But since my symptoms haven’t gotten better I went back thru old blood work and noticed it. Also it says no M- spike observed.
I always have elevated IgA quant around 600 - even just recently. My normal doctor just orders my yearly blood work and I asked for this IgA since it’s weird it’s always flagged and no one knows why or seems to care. I do have sinus issues which has been my general explanation. My other bloodwork is normal except my GFRe has gone from 100 to 85 in a few years but still not flagged abnormal.
I read that if the monoclonal proteins are in the beta region it can be hard to identify the light chains. But this note still seems weird to me. Has anyone had elevated IgA with MGUS?
I don’t have calcium issues, CBC all normal. I don’t have stomach issues either commonly seen with heavy chain disease.
Thanks for any insight
