I have finally found away to use custom icons on your home screen without having to use a launcher and I thought I would share (I may be late to the party).

It is a bit of a work around, and a little manual but I think it's so worth it!

- I use the shortcuts app Quikshort
- I also use the Material Photo Widget app to add any photos (like the Smiski, cherries and donut)

I buy all of my icon packs off of Etsy and haven't had any issues using them so far.

How to:

Download the Quikshort app on the Play Store.

1. Long press on you home screen
   2)Tap Widgets -> Quikshort 1 x 1 Widget

2. Add -> Create New -> Apps -> Choose the app your want the custom icon for -> Customize Icon -> Select from Gallery -> You can either select photos from your photo gallery or click the three dots in the top right hand corner to choose any icon packs you may have saved in your Google Drive.

3. Once you've picked your icon you'll be taken to the crop image page, leave position as is and click "Box Size" and change the size all the way up. You can customise the shape if you wish, however I usually just leave it.

4. Click the tick in the right hand corner, you'll be brought back to the icon page. Click the back arrow in the left hand corner. You'll be be taken back to the main icon page. You can either choose to show or hide label.

5. Once you're happy click the tick in the bottom right hand corner. You're done! You need to repeat this process for each icon you want to change.
