LPT: Your car doesn't have to honk every time you lock it
Edit: so it turns out this is a mostly North America problem. Euro cars don't seem to do it.
So when you lock your car and it honks everyone in the surrounding block hears the honk. In apartment complexes that can be hundreds of people. Dogs start barking, babies wake up, I wake up, people walking past you get startled. Extra noise pollution for something that isn't particularly valuable. It's not a nice beep or chirp like in the early 2000s, it's a full blast honk.
Every big manufacturer has an option to turn this off in the vehicle settings. Your neighbors will appreciate it.
