Alaska, Colorado, or Virginia/Maryland
I'm hoping to hear from falconers from the above states, or with experience of falconry in them.
I came to the U.S. with falconry experience from another country, and eventually found myself in position to seek an American apprenticeship. Unfortunately I was not able to complete it at that time, and then through a series of life events during which it would not have been responsible of me to pursue falconry.
I am now in a position to do so, but cannot at present due to living in base housing. I have a PCS coming up next year, and the time is finally right for me to get a place off post and resume my efforts. I still have my library of books, all my gear, and so forth.
Most likely, I am going to one of the above three places (I grouped VA and MD because I could live in either one while working in the NCR) and, while of course nothing is guaranteed, have the opportunity to express a preference for where. While it may seem crazy to pick based on falconry, I have a feeling people here will understand.
I have done my own research into the falconry situation in each state, and definitely have my own thoughts. But I am also seeking to hear boots on the ground experiences and insider knowledge.
Thanks for reading this little essay, and thanks in advance for whatever you can offer.
