Questions about this speaker cables found in an old house
Hello everyone, I'm sorry if I'm out of topic for this sub. I tried to find the best sub to ask these questions, but if it's not here please remove the post.
I'm not really an audiophile although do plan to dive a bit on the tech and science related to this when I'll have time to install a (cheap) sound system in my house in the near future. But I know that I don't have time for this rabbit hole right now.
I am renovating a house from the 90s and I found 2 of these pair of cables in the walls. They are stranded copper wires. On one side both pairs are in the in middle of one wall (where the previous owner had his TV), then they go up the ceiling and then down in the walls to both corners of the opposite wall. Given the placement of the cables and the cables themselves, I assumed that they are for connecting audio equipment. Is it correct ? If yes, I have several follow up questions:
does it have a specific name so I could look up for more information myself ?
Is this still useful and compatible with "modern" hardware ?
what kind of wall plug connectors could I mount to avoid this dangling wires on both sides ?
on at least 2.5m length, this cables share the same path as the electric cables for wall sockets. They are very close to each other and potentially twisted around each others. I know you should not mix strong and low currents, but apparently they did here. How bad is it for the quality of the signal ? I assume it will not be perfect because of this and most of you wouldn't like it, but would a neophyte like me really hear any issue because of this ?
the exit of this cables on both corners of the wall are at floor level. This really doesn't fit our layout to put speakers there. Is it a bad idea to put them closer to the ceiling with wall mounting?
