TOPOAK Galaxy Light 51” vs. 56”
I’m trying to decide which rooftop tent to buy for my 5th gen 4Runner with a Prinsu roof rack and could really use some advice.
I previously had the TOPOAK Vision XL RTT, but it ended up being way too heavy for my liking, so I sold it. Now I’m considering the lighter TOPOAK models, but I’m stuck between the 51” and 56” versions. Weight is a big factor for me because I really didn’t enjoy having such a heavy tent on the roof before. I’m 6’1”, do camping and off-roading out in UT/CO, and I’m a little concerned that the 77” mattress length may feel too short. My wife may join me on trips in the future as well, so I’d like something comfortable enough for two adults.
I’ve also seen reviews mentioning issues with the hatches where the ladder is rubbing against the roof rack because of how tucked in they are. Has anyone experienced this? Does it happen on both the 51” and 56” models?
Another thing I’m wondering is whether the 56” version is too wide for a Prinsu rack. I rushed into buying the Vision XL before, so I’m trying not to make the same mistake again.
At this point, I might even consider a different brand if there’s a better option out there but really like what TOPOAK has brought to the market at a reasonable price. My main priorities are keeping the weight reasonable while still having enough room for two adults to sleep comfortably.
If anyone has experience with these tents, especially the rubbing issue, I’d appreciate your thoughts.
