Need a reality check (IRS-CI)
Hi I’m a 24m with a Bachelor’s in finance and minor in economics. I graduated from a solid school with a 3.25 GPA. I currently work at the IRS as a GS 5 tax examiner and am interested in becoming an IRS Criminal Investigator. As of the last time the job was posted (like four weeks ago I think?) I fit all of the listed qualifications except I only had 9 out of 15 the credit hours in accounting required. I’m considering pursuing these remaining credit hours but the trick is if I got those credit hours it would only be for the benefit of being able to apply for that CI job. I’m not interested in staying at the IRS long term beyond the CI role not because I don’t like it but because most non-CPA roles are just too low paying with too little ladder for me to build a career with.
My question is if I match the qualifications listed next time it’s posted do I have a realistic chance (not guarantee I know) of getting the job. I understand that my likelihood will fluctuate
Based on year to year policy changes but my main concern is if only meeting the bare minimum qualifications is completely insufficient. Like for example though I’m eager to learn I don’t have any prior law enforcement or military experience and I’m also obviously a very early career professional. If I don’t have a snowballs chance in hell I’d rather know now before I commit the time and money to pursuing those remaining credit hours. Thanks for reading and contributing. I really appreciate it.
