What's it like to sub for HS during study week and finals week?

Are students less well behaved since they're almost out of school and only have a few days left or hanging on enough to not cause problems? How's it like to sub during finals or study week, the week before finals/when seniors have their finals?

Had a good morning half day subbing day for AP Math classes

Ended up keeping my half day HS AP Calc BC sub job which started at 9am and ended at lunchtime. They just took their AP test the day before. Subbed 2 AP Calc BC classes and students were mostly juniors and some seniors. They were well-behaved and put their phones up without needing me to give reminders. They worked on their assignments and some left early for AP tests. Some of them asked me some questions about teaching/college/studies. Overall students were polite and not causing problems or disappearing from the room to use the restroom for too long. Left a good sub note with my number and stating I'd be happy to return. I hope to return to this teacher's classes when they need a sub again.

Do you sub on the first few days of your period?

For subs who get periods/cramps/headaches, do you sub during the beginning of your period if you get cramps and headaches or do you take the days off? If so which days of your period do you avoid subbing?

I wanted to take some sub jobs which would be day 2 of my period but I'm having bad cramps and headaches from day 1 of my period and it's uncomfortable to walk a lot or stand for long. If I don't sub on my period that means I wouldn't sub all week since day 1 started on Monday. Probably the only sub jobs I could take are being a librarian if we can use the restroom any time. Also we have block periods here which are almost 2 hours with no restroom breaks unless we call another teacher to help. I've already taken ibuprofen but it's still painful and I can't imagine going to multiple classes of new students and teaching lessons or managing behaviors while cramping/dealing with headaches, but I know I'm not sick and it's just period symptoms.

Edit: so I ended up seeing an AP Calc half day job posted at my local HS that's on day 2 of my period and ended up caving in and accepting it since I wanted to work instead of mope at home. But it's half day so ill be out before lunch.

The HS students were saying the science teacher is “probably slacking, remodeling their house, said would be back today but isn’t” as their teacher has been out for the whole week. They also said their male English teacher (who also was out and had a sub) was “out cheating on his boyfriend again”. Teacher just left the same list of online assignments as last class and nothing new. Not sure if students feel resentful their teacher is out for a while and if that caused students to start moving next to their friends in class after I took attendance with the seating chart and some kids trying to pull out their phones and hide them behind their laptops. Did they try to move to sit with their friends because their teacher was out for the week?

I have tried taking attendance with the seating chart but after i go around taking attendance, many students start moving to sit with their friends. These kids see a sub and think it's a free day where they get to sit with their friends. I wrote down names of the kids who moved in case their teacher cares. How do you handle this?

I haven't subbed for actual classes in a few weeks after a chaotic class before spring break and then a librarian sub job. Got busy with other things and haven't seen many good sub jobs until now. However I just accepted a HS sub job for 3 blocks of sophomores in honors chemistry. The last science class I subbed for was AP bio and it was chill overall but they were all upperclassmen (mostly juniors and some seniors). The assignment also says to report to the chem classroom but every time ive subbed at this school (20+ times) i reported to the main office where I picked up the sub material, keys, etc.

Any tips on what to expect for subbing 3 blocks of honors chem, all sophomores?

Sometimes I miss frontline notifs because i didnt hear them and we can pick among all the sounds but there doesn't seem to be any that stands out more loudly. Which frontline app sounds do you find to be the best or loudest to notify you?
