Should I split my HP fanfic into two stories or keep it as one?
Hi!🤍 I recently started writing my first AO3 fic. I have written a couple before but this is the first time I am actually planning on posting it. I’m honestly really enjoying the writing process so far, but I’m still kind of unsure about how people would receive/read it on AO3.
So this fic is Harry based and mainly centered around Harry and Draco's younger sister (an OC, I know sooo original😛) with the Triwizard Tournament timeline changed to age them up a bit. Harry/OC is the mainship but I also have a plan for Draco and Hermione.
So I was wondering would it be better to keep this all in one fic, or split it into two separate stories/parts eventually? One more focused on Harry/OC and another focused on Draco/Hermione?
I’m worried that if I keep both, it might become unnecessarily confusing or feel overcrowded ship-wise, especially since I’m switching POVs sometimes too. But at the same time, splitting it feels a bit awkward because both relationships affect the same overall plot and completely removing Draco/Hermione or giving them a minor part in the story might leave me with no reads.
What usually works better on AO3 for this kind of story?
Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve written/read longer HP fics before😭 I also feel like a dummy trying to navagate using reddit so I don't really know if this is the right way to post this.
