14 week old puppy scared of other dogs

I’m feeling a bit shaken and could use some reassurance. My 14 week old golden retriever puppy, Peach, has had a few positive interactions with calm dogs, and she’s been doing great watching dogs from a distance. She starts puppy classes soon, and I was feeling really hopeful about her socialisation.

But she’s now had two bad experiences with off lead (not aggressive, just lacking boundaries) dogs running straight up to her, and today she completely panicked, yelping, trying to escape, hackles up. It was horrible to see her so scared. I have intervened a few times with fast approaching dogs by using my body and telling them to stop/stay. But this one today came bolting off of a canal boat and I didn’t have time to react. I picked her up as fast as I could but it was difficult with her running circles around me.

I’m worried this will affect her long term confidence with dogs. Has anyone else had a puppy this age who went through something similar and turned out fine? Did puppy classes and controlled exposure help?
I just want to do right by her.

I’ve been looking into the safest options for my girl. And tbh I’m leaning heavily toward delayed spaying (around 6 years old).

My reasons are (from what I understand about the most recent research) that the most common and aggressive cancers and health issues in goldens present an increased risk in spayed females, especially if they are spayed before 2 years old. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I understand, the longer you wait to spay, the less risk there is for hemangiosarcoma & Lymphoma.

Conversely, the longer she goes intact, the more risk of mammary cancer, although this is far less aggressive and is treatable. The risk of Pyometra is 0 in spayed females, and is relatively rare for intact females under the age of 5/6, when it increases significantly. Obviously this is another thing that is treatable if caught early, but it sounds like it can be hard to catch. So this is why I am thinking of spaying around this age. For me personally, management of cycles is not an issue.

I’ve spoken to my vets about it, but they seem to be of the opinion that after the first heat is the best time to do it. This seems to contradict the newest research, though.

I’m curious as to what you all think and what your experiences have been with your golden girls. I’m wondering if waiting till she’s 5/6 if overkill? Do those extra 3 years reduce the risk of the worst cancers in any significant way?

Thank you in advance!

I noticed when checking my 12 week old’s teeth that her gums are looking like this. It’s the same on the bottom except worse, but I can’t get a good picture of those ones as I need both hands. It’s not just red, it’s indented too. And on her bottom there is an indentation that’s more white in colour. It doesn’t seem to hurt her.

She has her meals on a lickimat that is frozen and she does tend to bite at it with her front teeth, so I’m wondering if that’s the reason? Don’t want to waste money on taking her to the vet if it’s just normal puppy teething, so thought I’d ask here.
