Plotholes

Man I just love rewatching the show and noticing all the little plotholes, inconsistencies and retcons. 8x21 is a fun episode but you're telling me Crowley can erase Kevin's short-term memory and make him forget he'd been kidnapped, but he can't see in Kevin's memory where he'd hidden the tablet? So Crowley can edit Kevin's memory but not view it? Even if so, in this very season Crowley had no problem with burning off Kevin's mom's anti-demon possession tattoo to possess her, yet he doesn't think to do that to Kevin to see his memory? I will just choose to believe Crowley organised all the theater in 8x21 to realise his dream of directing lol.

Another thing I noticed is how in s6 when Dean gets turned into a vampire he's very attuned to human smell and forbids Sam and their grandfather from going with him to the nest because vampires would immediately clock them, yet in s8 he easily strolls into a vampire nest with Benny and simply hides from the vampires behind corners and walls.

What are the funniest/your favourite plotholes from the show?

Does anyone have any ficrecs for if Sam had ended up in Purgatory instead of Dean?

Tried ao3 but haven't had any luck so far, but surely there's no way that in the 14 years since the plotline aired no one has ever written a fic where Sam and Dean switch places? Any ship or gen is fine, thanks!

Hallucifer is a horribly wasted plotline

This is probably a lukewarm take but I just have to get this out. I cannot believe how majorly they dropped the ball with the Hallucifer plotline.

Half of season 6 they went on and on about how damaged Sam's soul was from his time in the cage. Death himself deemed it necessary to protect Sam from those memories because he didn't know what state Sam would be in if he remembered them or if he would even survive. We get to season 7 and this manifests in Lucifer hallucinations/psychosis - fire way to show how haunted and broken Sam is... except after Lucifer says "Okay I may be not real but I'm not going anywhere" in the end of ep2 that is exactly what he does and we don't see him again until 12 full episodes later. Meanwhile Sam's behaviour changes in absolutely no way from any other season other than a short little "oh yeah my head's still fucked up haha" and fiddling with his palm scar (that healed months ago and no way still hurts) thrown in every once in a while to remind the viewers that this is still an ongoing storyline. In one episode he goes on an honest to God run "because it's good for you". It actually seems like Dean is struggling with his guilt of lying to Sam about killing Amy more than Sam is struggling with seeing hallucinations of his abuser who can manipulate Sam's reality.

Then apparently Lucifer had to be "let in" or acknowledged by Sam for the palm scar trick to stop working and for Sam to start seeing Lucifer 24/7 - okay, flimsy but I'll take it, but at least SHOW THAT. In ep2 Lucifer made Sam fully drive somewhere without even realising he was driving, thinking it was "Dean" doing that. Can you imagine what visions and torments he could have been throwing at Sam while he was working, hunting monsters, facing Leviathans and losing Bobby? I wouldn't expect or want Hallucifer to take the stage in every single episode but just seeing Lucifer pestering Sam in the background and Sam steadfastly ignoring him would be amazing.

I don't know if the showrunners didn't want to commit to hiring the actor to the main cast again or if the actor wasn't available for that much time but either way I will forever mourn what we could've had with this plotline.
