Over reaching / Under recovery?
Good afternoon. I would appreciate some help and advice from you guys. I am a 50 year old male, 5' 10, 185 lbs. I am not strictly a runner, more of a power walker really, but this sub seemed like a better fit. I have walked 4-5 miles 5 days a week for the last 3-4 years, usually around a pace of 14.5-15 minutes per mile or thereabouts. Over the last 6 months or so I have increased the frequency and intensity, to 6-7 days a week, doing 4.5 miles per day at pace of around 14 minutes a mile, sometimes in the high 13s, which translates to around 7 hours of cardio per week.
For the last 10 days or so, I have been experiencing muscle twitching in both legs, calves, thighs etc, a totally washed out feeling, along with a low blood sugar/shaky/anxiety type feeling, especially in my legs and arms and a kinda wired but tired sensation overall. Also have a slight tremor in both hands when trying to perform tasks, never at rest. It seems like my central nervous system is just fired up constantly. I have been sleeping poorly for the last few months, will get 7 hours if I am very lucky, more like 6 or slightly less, waking up several times through the night. I have also been drinking more wine over the last 2-3 months , probably 3-4 glasses per night, 5-6 nights per week, which is not normal for me really, just have fallen back into some bad old habits.
I stopped working out completely 5 days ago, and haven't had any wine for over a week, but these symptoms persist. The only other relevant information I think is that I was dealing with a bad case of SIBO from last summer until around January of this year, and have had to restrict my diet accordingly, although it is largely under control now.
Are these symptoms of over reaching and/or under recovery? All the research I have done keeps pointing to this, but I am not sure. Any help appreciated. Thank you. - Bobart301
