July Visit Itinerary Thoughts
Visiting from Minnesota this July landing on the 3rd and flying out on the 11th. Wanted to get some feedback on our plans and any tips/things to know about the regions we'll be in. We're pretty good planners/researchers and have winter experience since we live in Minnesota but no resource is better than natives and/or people who have done it before.
Our plan is to be off the rural roads by 5:30 and give the roads a bit of time in the morning to thaw up. I am curious how much black ice is a thing to plan around in the early AM and evening vs something told to warm climate visitors who don't know any better.
July 3rd: Land in Christchurch that morning, stay in Lyttelton
July 4th: Drive and stay in Timaru [Easing into things]
July 5th: Drive and stay in Lake Tekapo [Onward to Mt Cook if more favorable weather day]
July 6th: Drive and stay in Lake Pukaki [Mt Cook day if weather allows]
July 7th: Drive and stay in Queenstown [See city]
July 8th: Drive and stay in Te Anau [See area ahead of tour next morning, hike?]
July 9th: Stay in Te Anau with bus/boat at Milford Sound
July 10th: Drive and stay in Queenstown
July 11th: Fly to Brisbane and beyond
