Recent UC diagnoses oral steroids not working.
Hey, everyone. Been lurking the sub for that last week or so. I was recently hospitalized and diagnosed with UC and in a severe acute flare following a colonoscopy. I was put on iv steroids for 3 days and sent home with oral prednisone. Within 2 days all of my symptoms came back including significant pain, urgency, blood in my stool, and full body sweats. During my post hospital f/u my provider sent me back to the ER. I was readmitted and again placed on iv steroids for 3 days with good results. They also gave me an infusion of Remicade.
They then took me off of the iv steroids and transitioned me back to oral during my hospital stay to see how I would respond. Again within 48 hours off of iv steroids all of my symptoms came back. They are discussing another dose of remicade tomorrow and have since resumed iv steroids again. I know I can't stay in the hospital on iv steroids forever. I'm hoping that I can avoid a colectomy and find a medicine to help me get back to a somewhat normal life.
Has anyone had experience with there body reacting well to the iv steroids but essentially rejecting the oral equivalent?
