Believing in god prevents an experience of God.

The pursuit of God may contain the very structure that prevents its resolution. To seek God requires a seeker and a conception of what is sought; that conception becomes the framework through which experience is interpreted. Partial confirmations reinforce the framework while preserving the distance between seeker and sought.

NOT DESPERATE!. Genuinely looking for a conversation.

I'm looking for someone who simply wants to have a real conversation.

I don't particularly care what about. Philosophy, religion, science, history, consciousness, morality, literature, human nature, or some obscure question neither of us has thought about before. The subject matters less to me than the willingness to actually explore it.

You don't need to be an academic or particularly well read. Curiosity is enough. In fact, I'd rather talk with someone who can comfortably say “I don't know” and become interested than someone who has an opinion about everything.

Disagreement is welcome. I enjoy having my ideas challenged, and I'm perfectly happy discovering halfway through a conversation that I'm wrong. I'm not looking for ideological agreement or a debate opponent to defeat. I miss conversations where two people can take an idea seriously, pull it apart for a few hours, and walk away having given each other something to think about.

I've been feeling rather intellectually isolated lately, so I figured I'd stop complaining about the absence of these conversations and simply ask for one.

If that sounds enjoyable, send me a message.

Bring an idea.

Good conversations are too rare today

I'm looking for one or a few people in the area who enjoy having deeper conversations about philosophy, history, theology, science, books, or really any interesting ideas.

I'm not looking for formal debates or an academic only group. You don't need a degree or any particular background. I'm mostly interested in finding people who genuinely enjoy learning, thinking through ideas, and having long conversations about them.

I'd be happy to meet somewhere public like a coffee shop or library and see where it goes. If enough people are interested, maybe we could eventually turn it into a small regular discussion group.

Anyone around here interested?
