My Miss Hannigan voice is so difficult

I am a teenage British girl who is like the polar opposite of Miss Hannigan, and I was recently cast as her. I am absolutely thrilled, but I'm finding that her voice is really hard to do, since I have to put on an American accent (just a generic one), try to add grit and texture to her voice, and still annunciate!

So do I have any American people (or people that do really good American accents) who can give me advice on how to sound clearer?

Getting snuck up on when using loud objects

Okay, I'm fine with loud noise, let me make that clear. Love a good theatre show/concert/band practice. HOWEVER, whenever I'm using a hand dryer/hair dryer/ flush toilet, I always get absolutely TERRIFIED because I can't hear anything else around me, so I get scared I'm going to get snuck up on.

I've genuinely thrown my hairdryer at my sister because she entered my room without me knowing while I was using the hairdryer and I turned around and saw her and got so freaked out. I apologised after of course, but also told her to make me aware of her presence if ever I use the hairdryer.

Does anyone else relate to this??
