Bought a “leaky” 2013 Gaggia Classic for $50… turns out it had a freeze-cracked boiler.
Picked up a 2013 Classic originally listed at $150 for $50 after the seller dropped the price because it leaked.
When I got it home, water was pouring out inside of the machine. I figured it was probably a bad boiler gasket.
Took it apart and found the upper boiler had a huge crack through the flange. I’m guessing it got put away with water in the boiler and froze over the winter.
Ended up replacing the upper boiler, every gasket and O-ring I could get to, and gave everything a good cleaning while it was apart.
It’s now leak-free, and all appears to be good to go.
Not bad for a $50 gamble. Looking forward to finally pulling my first shots on it.
