Autoescuela dribo
Hola!

Hot girls don’t contact small businesses
reddit.com“Hot girls read” update!
Allie Rose Co just posted a reel saying she’s giving up the trademark (as she should tbh) and that everything she did was just “business strategy” and she wasn’t thinking about small businesses.
She says she’s sorry and takes full accountability.
Tbh I don’t even know if this is genuine or just damage control after all the backlash she’s been getting.
Also like… as everyone’s been saying, she probably would’ve lost anyway because “hot girls read” is literally a commonly used phrase and wasn’t even her idea. The audacity is still astounding.
She’s also saying she didn’t send those Etsy messages telling small businesses to take down “unlicensed merch”… but idk about that one.
Tbh I’m just happy this has ended and that she learned from the humbling experience.

Edit: a Booksta acc just posted the email she received from Etsy when Allissa (Allie Rose Co) demanded small businesses to take down their HGR merch.
Remember she just said in her apology video that she didn’t contact any business owners.
Thread: (I’ll post the screenshot in the comments!)

Bookboyfriend… now trademarked?
Hi!!! So the trademarks strike again (and we are not going to like it)
Turns out that not only Allie Rose Co trademarked Hot girls read, but now another girl (spicysnacks) is trying to trademark “bookboyfriend” (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUjWOwPjCHj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link —> this is what she wants to do)
Imo this is NUTS. Hot girls read was stupid, but this?
People are sooo greedy omfg
if it gets approved, I really hope it doesn't end up causing problems for small businesses, merch shops, or creators...
Edit: the screenshot shows the trademark filing submitted by Kelsie (SpicySnacks) in an attempt to trademark the phrase "Book Boyfriend."
Edit 2:
In the case of "Book Boyfriend", it's IC 041: Providing online non-downloadable electronic publications in the nature of e-books in the field of romance fiction.
Since it's "non-downloadable", they might be trademarking it for serialized romance or subscription reading service or app or something. It's an extremely limited trademark in a category that imo doesn't have much competition the way HGR did. It wouldn't affect anyone trying to sell "book boyfriend" stickers or sweatshirts or anything.

The poppy war… is it really that good??
Hi all!!!!
I tried to read The Poppy War a whiiile ago, maybe one or two years ago but I couldn't get through it because of exams and other adulting issues
Lately I've been thinking a lot about giving the trilogy another try, but I'm not sure if it'll be my cup of tea…
Some of my favorite books are {The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson}, {Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff}, {The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole}, and right now I'm reading {The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch}.
do you think I'd enjoy The Poppy War? Have u read it?
More info: the first time I read like the 20 first pages only :)
“Hot girls read” is now trademarked???
Hi!!!
So apparently Allie Rose Co (a company that sells bookish merch) has trademarked “Hot Girls Read,” and now a lot of small businesses in the bookish community are finding out that using that phrase on merch could potentially create legal issues.
I'm genuinely confused about how this even happened.
I've been on Bookstagram for what feels like a millennium, and “Hot Girls Read” has been part of online reading culture for YEARS.
I’ve been reading a couple of threads and comments about the topic and most people associate the quote with Megan Thee Stallion's “Hot Girl” era, and since then it's basically become a common internet phrase used by readers, small businesses and content creators.
From what I've seen a lot of people are upset (and rightfully so) not only because of the trademark itself, but because small creators could be the ones most affected. Many of them have been using the phrase for years before they even knew someone had registered it.
Am I overreacting, or does this seem a little ridiculous to anyone else?
