Positive experience with Clapham Grand so far after sending an email before the event

Just wanted to share a good experience for once, because we usually only hear about venues when things go wrong.

I’m going to Indiepalooza at The Clapham Grand tomorrow and I emailed them in advance to let them know I need to bring my prescribed cannabis with me.

I explained that I’ll only be bringing the one medication I actually need for pain flare-ups, in my case Glass Pharma T27, and that I’ll have the prescription and doctor’s letter with me. I also made it clear that I’m not smoking anything, it’s administered with a vaporiser/inhaler, and that I’m happy to follow whatever reasonable venue guidance they have, like using a designated outdoor/smoking area if needed.

Honestly, I was expecting at least a bit of awkwardness or confusion, because we all know how badly this can go with security teams. But they replied saying it was absolutely fine, that they’d noted it on the guestlist, and that the duty managers would be briefed for the event.

They also asked for a contact number and told me to make security and front of house aware when I arrive so they can take care of me properly.

It might sound like a small thing, but it was actually really reassuring. No “you can’t bring that in”, no “we’ll need to confiscate it”, no treating it like I’m trying to sneak something illegal in. Just a normal, calm response to prescribed medication.

I’ll update after the event, but so far The Clapham Grand have handled it exactly how you’d hope a venue would.
