I see so many mashups on SoundCloud yet when I post them they get removed on copyright. I get I don’t own the copyright so should expect this, but how are so many people managing to put them up? The first 32 bars of my most recent mashup were from a completely different track to the one that got pulled up on. So the old ‘it only scans 30 seconds’ rule doesn’t seem to be true. I haven’t had any strikes yet I don’t think. Just the message to say that my song had been flagged and to challenge it if I own the copyright (I don’t).

I’ve recently uploaded a few DJ mixes with no issues. I then uploaded some mashups that I made and most were fine, but the last two got rejected. I know I don’t own the copyright but I assumed mashups were ok as there are so many on SoundCloud. I haven’t had a proper ‘strike’ I don’t think but have had messages saying my track has been taken down for now and that I can appeal. I was talking to a friend who said that he just appeals at that stage. Is this what everyone is doing?
Also what does a proper strike look like? Is it worded in that way? Or are the messages I’ve been getting ‘strikes’?
Thanks.
