I am a newly minted scout leader for my kids' scout troop. I've camped a fair amount in my life. Nothing too crazy or serious, and im not a gear junky, so im not up on particular models. I know the big name brands and their price points, but am looking for some direct experience.
Wants/Needs: 4 person tent. This is for just me (6 ft 3 burly dude) plus space for some gear. Something solid I can rely on for 6-8 trips per year. As close to completely waterproof as possible. I also think I prefer a full rain fly.
Don't need: the latest and greatest. Gimmicks. Style points. I also don't need ultra light weight (im not packing in more than a hundred yards).
I think i like the coleman skydome with full fly/vestibule. At first I worried about it being too hot with the full fly. Then I realized I can keep the window at least partially open because of the vestibule, which I think sounds great.
Coleman at this point can be found at Walmart, which concerns me. And my #1 thing is I want it well built, durable, and waterproof. Any direct experience with this one and its quality? Any other recommendations of similar setups that are better without being too expensive? Im ok paying for solid mid range. I don't want top end though.
