I recently got a $6/hour raise (from ~$26.73 to $32.22) at my healthcare job in South Carolina. Both paychecks had two overtime shifts and multiple differentials etc etc.

  • Previous check (old rate + 2 OT): ~$3,457 gross → ~$2,397 net
  • Latest check (new rate + 2 OT): ~$3,862 gross → ~$2,440 net

I only brought home $44 more even though I made $405 more gross. Taxes and deductions ate up almost 89% of the raise. My filing status and allowances stayed the same, but federal withholding jumped from $283 to $532. Is this normal? Any advice on adjusting my W-4?
