Has anyone actually found a way to deal with imposter syndrome that wasn't just waiting for it to go away?
I've heard some version of "everyone competent feels like a fraud sometimes" for years. I understand the sentiment, but it has never helped when I'm actually feeling it.
The weird part is that I have evidence I'm doing fine. I've had good feedback, produced work people genuinely valued and hit milestones I once thought would finally make me feel competent.
Instead, I've just gotten better at explaining the evidence away. They were being generous. The expectations weren't that high. I got lucky. Someone else would have done it better.
I've tried the usual things: imposter syndrome questionnaires, books, talking to people, reading countless threads. Most of them are good at telling me that I have imposter syndrome, but not what's actually causing it or what to do differently.
What would you do if you were in my situation? Not really looking for reassurance. I'm curious whether there was something specific you changed, learned or did that actually made a difference.
