Given that TSA programs impact millions of travelers (and tens of thousands of frontline employees) I would argue that TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is the botched marketing blunder of the decade and should be taught in schools as exactly what not to do.
- Touchless or contactless payments (this symbol) are virtual or physical cards you tap or hover to provide payment to a merchant.
- Digital IDs use the same symbol in the UI as payment cards, and the TSA's own machines have the same corresponding tap symbol printed on them.
So that means TSA PreCheck Touchless (contactless) refers to my Touchless (contactless) Digital ID right? NOPE
We known it's a completely separate system for prior opt-in photo identification but essentially nobody without explicit prior knowledge will be able to understand what TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is as they're rushing through security and into the wrong lane for countless years to come.
Here are some alternative names the TSA could have used for this program, but didn't:
- TSA PreCheck Visual Enrollment
- TSA PreCheck Photo Enrollment
- TSA PreCheck Camera Enrollment
- TSA PreCheck Face Enrollment
- TSA PreCheck Express ID
- TSA PreCheck Fast ID
- TSA PreCheck Quick ID
- TSA PreCheck Rapid ID
- TSA PreCheck Instant ID
- TSA PreCheck Snap ID
- TSA PreCheck Biometric ID
