Diagnosed with severe IUGR at 34 weeks (update)
I wanted to post this update for any other parents that may have recently had a severe IUGR diagnosis and are looking for other's experiences. I will also post the link to the original post at the bottom. At 35 and 6, my wife's water broke. Our beautiful baby girl was born at 1510 grams (3lb 5.3oz) via cesarian. (At 34 weeks, the EFW was 1370 grams (3lb)). She was well below the 1 percentile. Despite her low birth weight, she was born fully developed and fully healthy. She hasn't needed oxygen. She did require some extra glucose through an IV for a couple days. She did have a feeding tube installed for a couple days. Also, due to her size, she was put in an incubator to help maintain temperature. By the forth day in the NICU, she no longer needed the IV or feeding tube and had bottomed out at 1420 grams. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks in the NICU. She is up to 1650 grams and no longer is using the heat in the incubator. We are only waiting on her to gain more weight to be able to come home.
I know it's not everyone's story but I wanted to share our experience to show some babies are just really small. Thank you everyone in this community for the support.
