This is My FIRST Timex and I Found My Grail...Honestly!
I have been into this watch journey for quite some time now. And as i bought more and more watches I realized what kind of watches I like.
Frankly, i have slender wrists and i wanted something small in automatic. I was satiating myself with sub 39 mm quartz watches despite desperately searching for an automatic that has the quintessential vintage look. Either I was getting vintage seikos, or obscenely expensive watches which I think weren't worth the price.
In came Timex Marlin! Man, it was love at first sight when i saw it on one of the posts in this sub. The specs, the vintage barrel shaped case, and the white dial were all in-sync with the kind of watch i was looking for.
I love the vintage vibes. And I was planning to buy the new 35 mm oris star. However, it's hands were too thick for my liking.
This watch is so simple, so light weight, and so vintage that I haven't took it off since i bought it. Well, honestly I am taking it off while taking shower. I am a stickler for not exposing my watches to water unless it's a diver or a gshock.
This is my first timex. And apart from the watch what really surprised me is it's stock brown strap. It was such a good quality stock strap that it puts the straps of current seiko sub $1000 watches to shame.
But i changed the strap. I was itching to wear a vintage styled white dialed watch with a nice black leather strap. So, I bought a black French box calf aniline leather strap, which apparently is more expensive than the watch. And as you can see, the watch is looking like a mid 4-figure piece.
My only gripe, it's like splitting hair though, is that I'd have loved it if Timex went all in and gave the dial total dressy appearance. Which is no lume, polished indices, dauphine hands, and no day/date. That would have been a chef's kiss for this one. People say this watch is too thick. Well, it is, but i don't think so it looks bulky thick like some of the Grand Seikos and newly released seikos.
The bezel on the barrel case gives it a nice two tiered look, that doesn't make it visually thick unless you bring the vernier caliper out to measure the thickness. At 12.5 mm, it still slides into the sleeves.
And lately, Timex has been on steroids. They're coming up with some fantastic models at unbeatable prices. This certainly isn't my last timex.
How ironic it is for me, that i am calling this my grail despite owning watches that are 10x of this watch's price. Watch collecting is indeed like a self-exploration.
Phew, Long Post! Pardon my excitement. Thankfully, I didn't buy a seiko or an oris.
