I’ve been reading a lot about the canonical bass pedal board these days. It seems the conventional wisdom is that a well-equipped bass pedal board will have a compressor, a good DI, probably a fuzz, OD, or both, and a clean octave pedal. The octave pedal seems to be used primarily around the seventh fret to generate a clean, sine-wavey synth octave with a similar range to the bass guitar itself.
That last one always has me wondering — is it not better to have a good keybass on stage instead? Maybe a Moog minitaur, sub phatty, or sub37? Maybe something else similar? It seems like you have a lot more freedom with an actual bass synth than you do trying to turn a bass guitar into a bass synth.
