Shafted by employer - will not expense my travel costs for exams

I was one of the students that got done in by the ICAEW’s second failure to correctly anticipate demand for FCS in the UK and I wasn’t able to book anywhere initially.

A few days later, London came up. So I booked in London.

I ask my people leader at my firm (big 4 audit) to pre clear the expenses I’ll incur travelling to London (hotel and train), it would be about £200-£300.

I get a call from my PL today saying my business unit’s lead partner has denied my travel expenses. The reason he gives is “consistency with policy”.

I thought ok bit harsh but given the firm was allowing remote sittings I thought I didn’t have a leg to stand on.

Then I find out my peers (same office, same grade, different audit line) had their travel expenses (train, hotel) to do the same exams were approved without issue. So I’ve been really fucked off since finding that out.

Is there anything I can do really? I’m on £29k, I’m not made of money. And now I have to dish out hundreds of my own money when my peers are getting it covered. It doesn’t feel fair.
