A love letter to the aluminum PowerBook G4
Recently picked up this 1.25 ghz 15” G4 on eBay, and I wanted to share some thoughts about this Mac. Somehow, this 20+ year-old battery still holds a decent charge, good for maybe an hour and a half of runtime. It came loaded with Leopard, though I’d like to put an SSD in here and install Tiger.
I had a hand-me-down PowerBook from my dad when I was in high school that was exactly like this one. It kept up pretty well with machines from the late 2000s, and it honestly had a phenomenal array of productivity software for my classes. Film project for German class? No problem, let the guy with the Mac do the editing. It made me feel like the Apple advertisements from the era had it all backwards… Windows PCs were for gaming, while Macs were for getting stuff done.
Anybody else have fond memories of these laptops? I feel like this one is entirely responsible for every Mac laptop I’ve had since. Timeless design and quality performance, all the way back in 2003.
