Boat Tours: Tipping

Planning on going on all day boat tour off the coast in a skippered boat with 12 other people.
Do people typically tip the skippers at the end of the day? If yes, how much is reasonable?

ZTL ortigia parking garage

We are using ortigia as a base for 5 nights in July at AirBNB and will have a rented car. We’d like to park in a garage inside the ZTL zone. I’m told the garage registers your license plate with town so you don’t get a surprise ticket a year later. AirBNB host has told us garage will handle it.

Question is, what is the best proof to get that they’ve actually registered the car? I’ve heard stories that garage “forgot” to do it, then you are stuck paying fines. As a last resort, could I actually check with the local authorities that car is registered? I’m on vacation, and I don’t want to be worried about this when I’m there or in back of mind for next year….

Restaurants in Northeast

Hello - I mean Northwest!

Going to be staying near Sennori in July. We want to eat at best authentic trattorias or osterias while we are here, don’t need Michelin type food, unless it’s outstanding. As I’m starting to look closer at restaurant reviews, it looks like there’s more value/quality in Sassari than Alghero (initially, I researched that the most/best restaurants were in Alghero) - it looks like Alghero you are going to have to be more careful about tourist traps….Is this mostly true? What’s been your experiences? I am now thinking of 6 nights, we maybe eat 1-2 in Alghero and 4-5 in Sassari and surrounding area? Also, mixed reviews on Sa Mandra, is it worth the effort/cost?

Taormina

We are going to end a trip to Sicily in mid July. We are struggling with how much time to stay in Taormina. We will be spending afternoon at Etna, then driving up to Taormina, arriving around 4pm. Figure we relax by pool and then out to dinner/stroll. Next day (last full day), would be visit to teatro antico, Castelmola, and maybe beach. We are quite aware of how touristy Taomina is, but figure its beauty outweighs tourists for a day. Questions: is Taormina similar to say, Capri or Venice, where once day trippers leave it becomes a much nicer vibe? Are there good restaurants despite it being pricier? Should we just spend the night in Taormina, and then use last day in Catania, which I hear is much more authentic, but has some people who love it and some who hate it? Just the night in Taormina would mean a rush to at least see teatro and Castelmola (which I understand are both must dos) We fly back from Catania early am.

Finally, we’d like last 2 nights in Sicily to be a wow factor. We were not crazy about the number of tourists in places like Venice, Capri, but felt it was well worth it to see both.
