Question about osseous surgery

Just had my initial appointment with my periodontist about the surgery. It is for one tooth that is like the number 2 molar I believe. The gums are a 3-6-3 over that spot and just that one spot. I have no pain or tenderness there either just a stubborn piece of tartar/plaque that they can't reach in a normal cleaning or a deep cleaning due to my gums being slightly larger than normal there . They said that I do not have gum disease at this point.

Is there much harm with that being the case to just being diligent with flossing more then once every other day for the next 6 months and seeing what happens. Its not a cost thing, just would prefer not to have surgery if possible as also allergic to nsaids so I would be just using Tylenol. Would have asked at the appointment but thought about it more on the drive home.
